Rally to Support Public Education and Glenda Ritz

Please plan to attend the Rally to Support Public Education and Glenda Ritz, Monday, February 16, at 2:00, in the North Atrium of the State Capitol, Indianapolis (see attached flyer). As many active teachers will be in class due to make-up snow days, it is important that our retired members are there. It is time for us to show our outrage at the assaults on Glenda's authority and on public education.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz will be the guest on WFYI's No Limits, 90.1 FM, on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. If you are out of range of the radio station, you can stream the program on the WFYI website, www.wfyi.org.

The House voted Monday to take the chairmanship of the State Board of Education away from Glenda Ritz, even though 1.3 million voters elected her to fill this position. The entire floor debate can be seen on the Indiana General Assembly website by clicking on “Video Archives” of the 2015 session, and then on “House Chamber” for Monday, February 9th, Part 1. Please urge your senator to vote against this bill and both your senator and representative to vote against other bills to diminish the authority of the DOE and Glenda.

Go to ISTA’s site for easy access to learn about and contact your legislators regarding important education issues, http://cqrcengage.com/ista.

At our ISTA-Retired Council Meeting on Wednesday, we will have a silent auction to raise funds for the NEA Fund. Members of the ISTA-R Legislative Committee will conduct the auction. Council members, please bring items for the auction and cash or your checkbook to purchase auction items.

Thanks to all the ISTA-Retired members who attended today’s ISTA Lobby Day. It was great to see so many of you there! Please plan to attend our ISTA-Retired designated Lobby Day, March 17, and any or all of the other Lobby Days--February 24, March 3, April 15.
